A little history on some of our Rebekah Lodges in Manitoba
RUTH REBEKAH LODGE # 3
HISTORY
INSTITUTED: MAY 21 ST 1909
Ruth Rebekah Lodge # 3 was instituted on May 21, 1909. The name Ruth was the courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Dugald McKillop who had been involved in the institution of the Lodge. They had lost a wee girl named Janet Ruth.
The number 3 was available and coincided with Portage Odd Fellows Lodge # 3. There were 19 Chartered Members.
The Lodge first met at the first Odd Fellows Hall on Royal Rd. N. Portage la Prairie, built in 1904. In 1966 the hall was sold and torn down. In 1977 the Order moved into a new building complete with a 61-suite senior complex and continues to meet there today.
Over the years the Lodge has taken part in many activities such as annual Christmas Parties for youth, served lunches for weekly Bingos, had a weekly bowling league, participated in community parades, annual Memorial Services, and held numerous fund raisers such as annual teas and catering to dinners and lunches.
Today we continue to recognize our seniors with birthday cards, visit our shut ins, sick and bereaved. We cater for luncheons for our seniors living in the building and make donations to various groups within the community and the Order, while teaching the goals and principles of our Order in Friendship, Love and Truth.
